The book I am reading is Elevation by Stephen King. This book, a short but compelling story is about main character Scott Carey, who has a strange disease that causes him to lose weight at a rapid pace. Scott begins to make an interesting discovery that no matter what he wears he always weighs the same and no matter how much he eats he doesn't gain weight. So far, He has only told his friend Bob Ellis who was a former doctor that can't put a name on his disease, and is extremely fascinated with the fact that when Scott stands on the scale with weights he is still the same . In addition with his disease he is also in a battle with his neighbors next door Deidre McComb and Missy Donaldson who's dogs keep doing their business on his lawn. When Scott confronts his neighbors about their dogs Deidre becomes angry and wants nothing to do with Scott. As his life goes on he continues to lose weight at a rapid pace of about 2 pounds a day, and is scared of the day that he hits 0 lbs, but decides to live his life the best he can for the short time he has left.
I can make a connection to Scott in the book I am reading because he is having problems with his neighbors that don't like him and are stubborn. When I was younger my family had many problems with our neighbors because they were stubborn and mean.
When I first got this book I was skeptical whether I would like it or not because the plot seemed very weird and unusual, but it continues to get more interesting with each page I read. I like how they chose the setting as a quiet and small town in the northeast. I think this was a great choice for the events of this book because it is unexpected and makes it more interesting for this plot.
