The book I am reading is Taking Flight by Elaine DePrince and Michaela DePrince. This book is about a little girl who was a war orphan, and then became a star ballerina. This story is based on a real life situation, that she had to go through, but she also fought through. Her name is Michaela DePrince, and she also has a movie about her life. She has also been on Dancing with the Stars. She has a condition called " vitiligo", and that is what caused most of her problems.
I don't have a personal connection to this but, there is a connection to the world, because many people in the world got discriminated against each other, and people were being excluded. Its just like back in the day when people would have separate schools, buildings, bathrooms etc. Just like Michaela kids were being bullied, just because of their skin color, just like her because she has " two " different skin colors, but its not her fault. Its not like she can do anything about it.
I really like that the book is based on a real life situation that happened to a little girl, because now she is a strong and positive role model. When I began reading the book it made me wonder about all the things that could of happened to other children that didn't have parents or anyone, when a situation came upon them. I like to think of this book as someone who overcame such a hard life, and through all of that behind and made her life, her dream.
