Eleanor and Park, by Rainbow Rowell is a story about this boy named Park who is on the bus and then this new girl named Eleanor comes on and she needs a spot to sit. All the seats on the bus are either taken or no one wants to share their seat with her. At first, Park was not going to share his seat but the bus driver yelled at Eleanor and he knew he had to share it so he did, this is what began the start of getting to know each other. On the bus Park would read comics and Eleanor would read them too without him knowing. The novel is about two teens trying to get through their own struggles while also figuring out the matter of love.
In the story, Eleanor has a step-father named Richie. Richie has bad temper and one time Eleanor's typewriter was too loud and Richie kicked her out of the house because of it. Along with that, Richie is also an alcoholic. One day Richie wrote bad things in Eleanor's notebook. This problem with Eleanor and her dad reminds me of the real world because there are parents who don't care about their children. Some of those parents even hurt their children terribly. The connection with my book and the real world helps me understand my book because some parents abuse their children and it is a big problem that still occurs to this day that needs to be fixed.
I can't believe Eleanor's step-father treated her that way and if I were in Eleanor's position I would not know what to do. In the novel, I like the way the author made it so you could read from both Eleanor and Park's perspective.
