The book I am reading is One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus. This is story about 5 high school students who went to detention on Monday and only 4 came out alive. It seemed like and accident, but they later found out it was not. A murder investigation started and the 4 high school students that were in that detention room are all suspects. They all are very different, have secrets they want to keep, and a motive. This investigation changes their lives forever.
One of Us is Lying is a book that relates to many horrifying things that happen in this world. In the book suicide plays a huge role in the story and in the world suicide is a major problem. Nearly 800,000 people across the world commit suicide each year. (https://save.org/about-suicide/suicide-facts/) Also, this book has many kids who got depression from secrets about them being spread through social media. In many recent studies it was proven that social media and depression is linked in teenagers and young adults. (https://childmind.org/article/is-social-media-use-causing-depression/) This book truly gives awareness to many terrible things that continue to go on in the world.
I love the way that the author used the perspectives of all four students that came out of that detention room that day. It really helped me understand how all of them were dealing with the whole investigation. During the book it made me sad when Copper came out as gay and his father was not happy about it.Also, in the book I love way there was a huge plot twist in the story. This was something I never expected and it was great. Overall, I believe this an amazing book.
